We all know dogs love a good nap, curled up on the couch, sprawled belly up in a sunbeam, or snuggled into their favourite bed with legs twitching in dreamland. But rest is not a lucky dog lazy afternoon pastime, it is a biological need. Dogs require a lot of sleep, anywhere from 16 to 18 hours a day for puppies, and older dogs around 12 to 14 hours a day then senior dogs often need even more. This is not being dramatic, this is just being a dog.
